In Nigeria, the National Association of Nigerian Theatre Arts Practitioners (NANTAP) will begin the celebration on March 24. A carnival/exhibition featuring Gelede, Eyo and Zangbeto masquerades will take off at Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Council and terminate at the National Theatre.
On the following day, Mary Lou Johnson-Pizzaro of the American Consulate; Jahman Anikulapo, Editor, Guardian on Sunday, and filmmaker Tunde Kelani, will participate in a lecture at the National Theatre. Later in that night, the association will premiere its first film titled Labalaba, written by Yinka Ayelokun and directed by Biodun Aleja, at the same venue.
On the 26th, the artists Dejumo Lewis, Amaka Igwe, Ben Tomoloju, Richard Mofe-Damijo and Dayo Liadi will hold an interactive session with university and secondary school students at the theatre.
The command performance of Yesterday Tomorrow, a play written and directed by Jide Ogunbade, will hold on the actual World Theatre Day while Sarah Bolous, founder, Society for the Performing Arts in Nigeria and the distinguished personality for ITD2009 will be decorated alongside eleven other cultural ambassadors later in the day.
